Program:  Jim Ballard from "The First Tee" presented our program.  The organization's mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.  The organization was founded in 1997 through an initiative of the USGA and World Golf.  Nine core values are taught - honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. There are 200 chapters, located in all 50 states and 6 international countries.  The local chapter began in 2007, and last year, 237 youth between the ages of 9-17 years old participated.  Three Des Moines golf courses are used (Blank, Grandview, and Waveland).  Jim ended by saying, "In teaching the game of golf, we teach the game of life."
