Polio Update

The eradication of Polio is the number one goal of Rotary. No New Cases were reported the past eight weeks in 2017: Pakistan 2 cases in 2017; 20 cases in 2016, down from 54 in 2015. Afghanistan 3 cases in 2017, 13 cases in 2016, down from 20 in 2015 and Nigeria 0 cases in 2017; 4 cases in 2016, up from zero cases in 2015.   Note two cases were reported in the Republic of Congo but this had to do with oral vaccination.  These are not counted only wild cases are counted.

  • The Gates Foundation is currently matching all Rotarian Raised Polio Donations $2 for each $1 Contributed (Up to $35Mil/Yr.) Our Rotary-wide Polio Fundraising Goal for the 2016-17 Rotary Year is $45 Million + the Gates Foundation Match.

Other Fundraising Opportunities!

  • Solheim Cup August 14-20, 2017-we have the opportunity to work a tent and raise money for our club. We have committed to three shifts one Friday, one Saturday, and one Sunday.  Pat Grote, Greg Kenyon and Naura Godar are your team captains.  This is expected to net over $50/hour per employee worked.  Each team needs 10 volunteers. Interested in volunteering? Contact one of your team captains!
  • Save the Date:  September 23 is the 2017 Octoberfest Date.  Good news was shared that WineStyles is moving down to corner where the restaurant is so there will be a nicer patio area and more space.  If you are interested in helping organize this let Diana Weishaar know you'd like to help.  Diana@humbletravel.com
