Club Bulletin for January 23, 2007 Today's program: Last week the program was a "throwback" to the origins of Rotary, as members shared 2-3 minutes about themselves in a round table discussion. It provided an opportunity to learn something about members that we would otherwise not have known. For instance, at our table, we learned that Melanie Roe grew up as an avid horsewoman, that Art Dinkin flies airplanes and lets people jump out (ok, they are skydivers), and that Larry Lockridge has spent nearly 50% of his adult life on the golf course (?!). A few members brought additional prospects. Good job! The Sgt at Arms bedeviled the club with strange geographical questions concerning the Land between Two Casinos⿦.. er Rivers. One word about the biggest sporting event of the year. It will feature terrific athletes, playing at the top of their games, on a playing field prepared to unrivaled conditions. The drama will be thick enough to cut with a knife. Yes, that's right, it's the Bunny Harper District 6000 Golf Tournament. Scheduled for June 18, 2007, in Indianola, the event involves traditional medal play AND a shambles format. Our Club reclaimed the trophy in 2006. So mark your calendars and prepare the defend the crown in 2007. On a lesser note, the annual midwinter football game between the AFC and NFC will be held on 2/4/07. Competing will be the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears. May the best team win, as long as its revered former owner was one of the founders of the league, and it has a fight song featuring the following lyrics: Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory; Bear down, Chicago Bears, put up a fight with a might so fearlessly. We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation with your T-formation. Bear down, Chicago Bears, and let them know why you're wearing the crown. You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears, bear down.
