Bulletin for November 7, 2006

THIS WEEK: Harold Hulleman Reports that earlier this year, the West Des Moines Rotary Club gave a dictionary to every fourth grade student in the West Des Moines Schools. This was part of our emphasis on literacy. This Tuesday, we will host administrators from the eight elementary schools in West Des Moines. A place has been reserved at each of eight tables so that we may have the opportunity to visit with them during lunch. Following lunch, the administrators will tell us a little about themselves, some things about their schools, how education has changed since they began teaching, the biggest challenges they face today, and what they see for the future of public elementary education. And they will each do this in three minutes. If time permits, we will have questions after their presentations are finished. These people may or may not know much about Rotary. Take the opportunity during lunch to help them understand what we stand for and what we do. This should be an interesting program. Last week's program: Rotary Meeting program for meeting held 10-31-06: President Jason Wolf opened the meeting. After introduction of visitors, Jennifer Jakolka-Brown served as Sargeant and quizzed members on Halloween origins. Mark Critelli, chairman of Vocational Service, introduced the four new members who were giving presentations for the vocational program & invited any members who hadn't visited their tables to get information & promotional giveaways to do so after the speeches. Cory Garrison of REL Productions of West Des Moines introduced his innovative program with the acronym: DIRTY.
