Announcements-

1. Farmers Market – we are set for this weekend but in need of assistance for both shifts over Labor Day weekend. If you can assist please sign up or contact Ed Minnick with your availability. As a reminder, we are asking for each member to volunteer for four shifts. This is a great opportunity to raise funding for our causes as well as get to know your fellow members.

2.     Holiday Bell ringing – Dave Carlson has gotten us setup to ring bells for the Salvation Army at the Hy-Vee on Jordan Creek Parkway. Bell ringing will take place during the month of December. More information to follow.

3.     Bicycle project – Harold Hulleman provided a handout and email regarding the bicycle project. They are looking for some additional tools to complete their shop and are taking donations. Please refer to Harold’s latest email or contact him personally to inquire about what’s still needed. All donations need to be made by August 31st otherwise Harold will be purchasing what he needs.

3 Minute Speaker/Sergeant-at-arms

I was the three minute speaker today. I have had very little change over the past couple months, besides the addition of our son, Merritt, to our family. Everyone is doing great! Additionally I shared trivia about schools since most schools are back in session this week.

Speaker of the day

Steve Lacy, Chairman and CEO or Meredith Corporation, spoke to the group today. As the printing industry evolved over time, Meredith has focused on three major areas; National Media, television, and marketing services. This diversity of services has enabled Meredith to realize annual revenues around $1 Billion. One of the greatest challenges and opportunities they face if the conversion of readership to digital outlets. With the Generation Y readers growing up they are looking for additional options in a more dynamic form to read Meredith created materials.
