3 Minute speaker/Sergeant-at-arms

Bill Kalianov was our speaker today. Bill has spent 25 years in the banking industry and enjoys kayaking. This past weekend Bill and his wife kayaked down the Red River but had to get out at the end otherwise they would have gone over the dam. (That would have been bad!) With State Fair around the corner, Bill wracked our brains with State Fair trivia.

Today’s Guest Speaker

John Viars from the Des Moines Playhouse gave us a historical tour of the playhouse and an overview of their programs. Founded in 1919, the playhouse has featured a play series every year since, and has boasted some of the best playwrights of our time. The playhouse is the 6th oldest and 2nd largest community theater in the US, second only to Omaha’s. Their programs are run by an army of volunteers and their programs enhance the lives of many in Des Moines. With focus on youth to adolescent, and all the way through seniors, the playhouse has something to offer for all age groups. Hairspray is the current play running and ends on August 7th.
